Matthew McGuigan H.B.A., J.D.

Matthew’s detail-oriented approach to the law provides him with the necessary skillset to tackle his clients’ matters in a comprehensive and effective manner. He enjoys solving complex legal issues for his clients, and practically applying solutions to his clients’ individual business needs.  

Matthew is an associate in our Business and Transactions Group advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, debt financing, private capital markets, and shareholder and partnership arrangements. His practice areas encompass the Canadian, cross-border, and international context.  

Matthew obtained dual Juris Doctor and Honours Business Administration degrees from Western University’s Faculty of Law and Ivey Business School. Matthew’s education at Ivey uniquely positions him when advising his clients. At Ivey, he gained experience in advising business managers with respect to various aspects of their business ventures such as operational efficiency, accounting, marketing, and internal organizational dynamics. Additionally, Matthew’s in-depth understanding of business operations and financial statements gives him the ability to comprehend each client’s unique business when engaging in negotiations. When providing legal advice, Matthew applies his business education by ensuring that the success of every client’s business is at the forefront of all analyses. 

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys reading (yes more reading), playing various sports such as hockey, golf, and baseball, spending time with his family and friends, and optimistically cheering on Toronto sports teams.
